Focus: Aspects of 3D nanoparticulate material processing.

Topics: Nanoparticles; processing; templating; 3D assembly; sintering; simulation.

Materials Characterization at the Nanoscale: Instrumentation

Focus: Advances in characterization at the nanoscale, including instrumentation, and examples of new insights into materials phenomena at the nanolevel gained by careful characterization.

Topics: Biomaterials; geomaterials; semiconductors; traditional materials disciplines of metals, ceramics and polymers.

Nano-Processing - Property Enhancement by Quantum Confinement and Other Effects in Reduced Dimensions

Focus: Nanomaterials for the enhancement of properties arising out of “quantum confinement,” a consequence of processing devices in reduced dimensions.

Topics: Methods of nanoparticles/device processing and characterization leading to quantum confinement and other effects; correlations between structure and properties of nanoparticles and their activities.

Nanomaterials for Electronic Applications

Focus: Design, fabrication and performance improvement of electronic devices using nanostructured materials and components.

Topics: Fabrication using nanoscale precursors; nanostructured components and composites; nanosize defects; nanoscale coatings; protection and durability of structures.

Nanostructured Ceramic Materials: Science and Technology

Focus: Simulating, synthesizing, functionalizing, processing, characterizing and manufacturing nanoceramics.

Topics:Industrial development and applications; synthesis and processing of nanopowders, nanostructures and nanocomposites; biomaterials; self-assembly, arrayed and nanoporous materials; nanotubes, nanorods, nanowires and other one-dimensional structures; functional behavior and characterization of nanomaterials; simulations of nanomaterials.

Mechanics of Nanomaterials and Micro/Nanodevices – Experimental and Modeling

Focus: Research on mechanical properties of nanostructures, nanostructured materials and nanocomposites, and reliability testing of micro/nanodevices.

Topics: In situ nanomechanical characterization methods; deformation and fracture mechanisms; novel modeling approaches of mechanics at small scales; size-dependent behavior; reliability testing of micro/nanodevices; novel structures, new materials or new fabrication techniques for micro/nanodevices; nanomechanical instrumentation.
