Steel Symposium

4th International Symposium on Railroad Tank Cars

Focus: Developments and trends in railroad tank car technology including the industry’s future with respect to safety, design, materials, fabrication and inspection.

Topics: Product metallurgy; weldability; damage tolerance; inspection; new materials; manufacturing methods.

Future of Alloying in Steel

Focus: Use of alloying elements not generally used in steel but with significant potential depending on cost and properties.

Topics: Effect of new alloying elements in achieving novel microstructures in steel; cost/benefit analysis of alloys and the substitution in steel to affect specific properties; interrelation of alloying elements on production processes and product properties.

Recent Developments in Steel Processing

Focus: Interrelation of steel production processes and product properties (dimensional and metallurgical).

Topics: Thermomechanical processing; enabling process technologies; heat treatment; joining; forming and machining; coating and surface treatment.

Steel Product Metallurgy and Applications

Focus: Physical metallurgy of steel products and its effect on application and performance.

Topics: Microstructure analysis; microstructure-property correlations; property-application studies.
