Crossing the Border
Any foreign visitor wishing to enter Canada must have a valid Passport, including U.S. travelers. A border services officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, if you are arriving from a country for which one is required. Visit Visa Information for details. Meeting attendees from countries that require a visa to enter Canada are reminded that the process of obtaining a visa may take several months. You are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and begin the application process early.
Driving a rental car across the U.S.-Canadian border is usually not a problem, as long as the arrangement was made with the car rental company. Make sure to have a copy of the rental agreement that clearly states your permission to take the vehicle across the border.
