Microbes fo Biohydrometallurgy
Microbes of Biohydrometallurgy
H.L. Ehlrich
This survey compares bioleaching and biobeneficiation by autotrophic bacteria with that by heterotrophic bacteria and fungi. Some physiological principles are reviewed. Advantages and disadvantages of autotrophic and heterotrophic leaching are discussed. Principles of anaerobic leaching by autotrophs and heterotrophs are introduced and the advantages over aerobic heterotrophic leaching are discussed. Examples of useful organisms in the autotrophic and heterotrophic categories are cited.
