Ceramics and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) find favor across a wide array of industries and are of critical interest for extreme environment applications. Maturation of integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) toolsets for ceramics and CMCs can accelerate commercial adoption of these materials. Join LIFT, the Detroit-based national manufacturing innovation institute, and Thermo-Calc Software, the global leader in CALPHAD simulation technology, for networking and technical discussions on the state of ICME for ceramics and CMCs. TMS Emerging Professionals Tutorial Luncheon & Lecture

Presenter: Joy Gockel, Colorado School of Mines
Lecture Title: "Making Opportunities and Breaking Barriers"

Making things and breaking things is Joy Gockel's lab motto, but this motto often applies to life, too. This presentation will dig into the history of additive manufacturing and 3D printing, paralleled with career path stories from the pioneers and Gockel's own personal experience. Self-reflection themes will be presented to inspire attendees to make the most of early-career opportunities and break perceived barriers. Gockel is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines (Mines) and Executive Director of ADAPT, the Mines additive manufacturing research center and industry consortium. All MS&T22 registrants are welcome to attend the lecture portion of this event, but to receive lunch, please purchase a ticket through the MS&T22 registration form.
